Darren Davies is a personal trainer, marathon runner, and keen cyclists from Oxford. Owner of Gladiator Fitness UK, a fitness community where personal and group training packages are tailored to suit everyone, Darren is passionate about equality in sport, and loves nothing more than introducing new training techniques and innovative fitness programs to both children and adults.
It was when Darren stopped playing football some 10 years ago that he got into running and cycling, and he’s never looked back since. He cycles to work every day, no matter what the not-so-great British weather has to throw at him, he runs marathons (once running 4 marathons in 2 days for charity!), and he has recently started competing in triathlons, with his 1st Ironman Competition firmly in sight.
When he is not busy at work, Darren can be found running and cycling around “the dreaming spires of Oxford”, where he can embrace the freedom that one only finds when out training in the fresh air, and at the end of the day, he loves nothing more than indulging in his favourite Thai cuisine and a glass of red wine.
Darren’s Tips for Cycle and Run Commuters
When we asked Darren why people should start running or cycling to work, he said, “If you looking for the best, cheapest commute and fitness option get your trainers on and run, or get your bike out!”
All Darren needs for his daily cycle commute is a pair of shorts, a t-shirt, a waterproof gilet, and his trusty Fitbit Tracker, and his top tip for those who are new to run or cycle commuting is simply “plan for all weathers and all incidents”.
