Mark Boulton is a Banker from London. He first got into running some 7 years ago when he wanted to change his lifestyle, get fit, and adopt a healthier way of life. At around the same time, Mark’s friend entered the London Marathon, and so he decided to start training with him by running home from work each day, and he has continued to do so ever since!
Today, Mark is a marathon runner himself, and he frequently competes in 5k, 10k, half-marathons and full marathons across the country in a bid to improve his long list of PBs. Just last year, he completed the London Marathon in a rather impressive 2:45:51, and his goal in life is simple, “to be better tomorrow than I am today”.
When he’s not busy in the office, Mark likes to spend his free time running around Victoria Park, which he describes as “London’s hidden gem”, and cycling in Olympic Park and along the canal. He run commutes and cycles to work regularly, describing it as much more pleasurable than the Tube, but he admits that he found it tough in the beginning.
Marks Top Tips for new Run/Cycle Commuters
Living and working in central London, Mark understands the pressures that run and cycle commuters face, especially when navigating busy roads, and so he advises all those new to run commuting to relax, take it easy, and enjoy it. Over time, it does get easier and more enjoyable, and the health rewards are endless.
Mark loves his daily run commute now, and he uses this part of his day to get in a quality workout while listening to a podcast as he cruises to work. When we asked him why he continues to run and cycle, he told us, “To be the best I can be. There is no better feeling than being in the middle of a speed session with a friend working to my absolute maximum.” And when we asked him why others should start running or cycling, he simply said, “Health, Fitness, Cheaper!”
In addition to running and cycling, Mark is passionate about football, music and food. His favourite meal is traditional Pie, Mash and Beans, and his favourite drink is water… it’s all about hydration, he tells us!
