Tom Martin is a fitness enthusiast from Leicester in the UK. He first got into running 6 years ago when he signed up for a 6 Mile Sport Relief challenge just two weeks before the event was due to take place, and after coming in 3rd place, he admits that he was hooked!
Just 6 months later, Tom ran his first half marathon, and he now has an impressive list of personal bests that any athlete would be proud of.
Today, Tom incorporates exercise into his daily life by run commuting and cycling to work, and when he is not competing in marathons or other events such as the Endure24, he likes to spend his weekends participating in the Braunstone Parkrun, a local 5km run against the clock.
As someone who describes himself as “very competitive”, Tom also likes to train at his local gym to maintain his fitness levels, and his future goals are simple, he just wants “to improve and be the best I can possibly be & to stay fit.”
When we asked Tom what he loved most about running and cycling to work, he said, “It's much faster than driving and I can stay in shape whilst also getting in a workout”, and while he admits that he found run commuting tough in the beginning, he told us that the stronger he got the easier it got. Tom’s top tips for new run and cycle commuters include preparing your kit the night before, and taking your time at first so that you can get used to your route.
Tom’s other interests including cooking, and when he’s not training for an upcoming event, he likes to indulge in his favourite food lasagne and a bottle or Grimbergen Tripel Beer.
