Steven is a 36-year-old Credit Controller from County Durham. An ultra-marathon runner in the making, he has just embarked on a five-year plan that has seen him change his exercise routine, his diet, and his everyday lifestyle in a bid to become fitter, healthier, and create the perfect work / life balance.
Steven first starting running back in 2010 when he completed 2 half marathons, but then gave up on running in favour of the gym. Earlier this year, he decided it was time to get back into running, but rather than wearing traditional running shoes, Steven runs barefoot or in minimalist running shoes, and he switched to a Ketogenic Diet to transform his body into a fat burning machine.
Not one to take things slowly, Steven already has a long list of running goals for next year, including two 10ks, two half marathons, and the Bournemouth Full Marathon in October 2017, and he hopes to be a regular on the national ultra-marathon running scene by 2020.
When he is not running barefoot across his local town and parks, Steven likes to spend his time hiking in the Lake District with his wife Heather, who is also passionate about the great outdoors.
While Steven lives too far from work to run commute, he hopes to incorporate it into his daily lifestyle in the coming months as he loves to exercise in the morning. He told us, “I think getting your blood pumping first thing in the morning, helps how you perform at work. I think it helps with concentration, stress and general well-being.”
When asked how he would encourage other people to run to work, Steven said, “We live in a hectic world, and there are many excuses not to run. Exercising whilst commuting, saves time in your day. Meaning you are more likely to keep doing it.”
If you think Steven’s Ketogenic Diet sounds somewhat limited, worry not! His favourite meal is Lamb Steak with Veg cooked in butter, and his favourite tipple is Single Malt Whiskey!
