IAMRUNBOX Ambassadors: Introducing Kevin Billington
Kevin is a Stock Manager from Tring, Hertfordshire. Married with 3 young children and a puppy, Kevin first started running just 12 months ago, when he was invited by his son’s school to take part in the Silverstone 10km Race, along with other parents. While he had never been a runner before, he trained hard in the lead up to the event, did better than expected on race day, and in his own words, he has been “well and truly hooked ever since!”
Kevin went on to run the Silverstone Half Marathon in 02:30:00, which is his proudest achievement to date, and he has already signed up for the Isle of Wight Challenge, which is a 65-mile run over 2 days.
To keep up his fitness levels, Kevin cycles to work, and likes to run commute from the train station during the warmer spring and summer months. Throughout the week, he can be found running across Milton Keynes, and he participates in his local Parkrun every Saturday morning.
Why Kevin is a keen supporter of Run Commuting and Cycling to Work
While he is pretty new to the world of run and cycle commuting, Kevin is already a huge fan of this form of urban mobility, and he has no plans to return to public transport anytime soon. When we asked him what he likes most about cycling to work, he told us, “I like to do this as it saves money on travelling in the car and also helps me keep my fitness levels up!”
Kevin’s top tip for those new to running to work and cycle commuting is simple, “Always leave in plenty of time, this allows those bad days that EVERYBODY has and always keep your fluids up.”
He uses his trusty Fitbit Blaze to keep on track of his heart rate and pace while out running, and loves the fact that this nifty running gadget delivers results in real time, and that looks as good as it performs.
At the end of a long day, what meal does Kevin look forward to most? Well, it seems a curry and a glass of red wine ticks all the right boxes!
