Glenn Watkins is a Trade Manager from Suffolk in the United Kingdom, who now lives in the vibrant city of Gothenburg in Sweden. Passionate about running and cycling, Glenn was introduced to competitive racing by his dad, who was a long distance cross country runner for the British Army. After taking a few years out during his teenage and young adult years, he now incorporates sport into his daily lifestyle by running, cycling or walking to work.
Glenn starting run commuting and cycling to work some three years ago in a bid to stay fit, prepare for the day ahead, and get some fresh morning air. To ensure he never gets bored, he alternates between running, cycling and walking to work, and while he describes his training outfit as ‘weather dependant’, he always has his Garmin forerunner and Garmin edge gadgets close to hand, and uses the Strava App to monitor his mileage and performance.
When he’s not busy at work, Glenn likes to spend his time cycling the many great cycle paths in Sweden and running around what he describes as “the urban jungle”, although he admits he is more at home on forest trails.
How Glenn Stays Motivated
When we asked Glenn what he loves most about run commuting and cycling to work, he said, “It’s a great start and end to the day. It also uses that time wisely to get some training done instead of just going home and plonking myself in front of the TV.”
And when it comes to his top tips for new run/cycle commuters, he said, “Just do it! Oh and don't forget your deodorant and towel like I did once!”
Glenn’s other great sporting passion is Chelsea Football Club who he’s been following for as long as he can remember, and when he finally winds down at the end of the day, he loves nothing more than tucking in to a dish of his mum’s homemade Shepherd’s Pie and a pint of good micro brewed IPA!
